It’s been a weird day with Carson.
He refused breakfast and lunch. Towards the afternoon, he started refusing bottles. He was fussy and nothing made him happy. His fever never got above 100. He took a 4 hour nap. None of those things is typically Carson — even when he is sick. So, we were worried about him all day.
I took him with me up to Home Depot to get some more paint, and he perked up a little while we were there. However, as soon as we got home he was cranky again.
And then I took him outside.
Cured! The old Carson came back. It was so weird. I sat on the step in the front and he stood between my legs just taking everything in. He watched the neighbors work in the yard, other neighbors carry in groceries from their car, kids riding bikes, cars driving by…just the normal activities on our street. He loved it! The weather was perfect too, and we sat out there for a good while.
Mark and Kate joined us, and we had a little family moment on our front porch. Both tots were smiling, laughing, talking and watching everything.
When we came back inside, Carson ate a TON of food — an entire Graduates entree, a can of Beanie Weenies, a slice of cheese, and a container of apple sauce. That is a massive amount for Carson. After all of that, he drank a full bottle of milk and then both kiddos got baths.
We still think he is sick — most likely an ear infection — but it was just amazing how some fresh air and new things to look at snapped him out of his all-day-fuss-fest.
So tomorrow we are planning a trip to a new park.
We feel like idiots.
